Welcome to Cushion Komachi
I make cushions using Obi, the Belt part of the Kimono.
Kimono is Japanese traditional/formal wear. The Obi is the belt part of the Kimono, and are beautifully patterned and embroidered. Many of the pattern on Obi and Kimono are symbolic, often meaning many happiness, long healthy life and calm flow in life.
I use Obi that I find from my home town Sapporo, Japan.
Most of them are from Shōwa era(1926-1989), and some from Taishō(1912-1925), even Meiji era(1911-1868).
There are so many different type of Obi, for different occasions & seasons, colours, patterns, embroidery, length, I still haven't seen exactly the same patterned Obi yet and therefore every single cushion is unique.
All my cushions are hand made. I use duck feather filling from by-product. Delicate fabric, washing not recommended.
